The Pantheon was one of my favorite tours on our first day in Rome! It was guided by Pantheon Elite Tour group off of TripAdvisor. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and filled with fun stories! The artwork here was great but to me the architecture was the ost interesting thing to me. Outside, you will find arches everywhere. It is probably the biggest tell tail Roman invention ever. They used it to build everywhere. Inside the Pantheon, the greatest notables besides the sculptures were the floor and the ceiling. The floor was multicolored marble taken from multiple areas and the ceiling had the hole in the center that leaves the building completely open to the elements. They used the open circle to add stability the building and the rain had the added benefit of cleaning the floors since the floors were built slanted with drainage holes drilled into the marble. We were told by the guide that they believe that in ancient Roman times, there were gold stars hung from those squares in the ceiling and when they had a fire at night, these gold stars would sparkle light the night sky.
