Hunting Island was recommended to me as a must see but I fell in love! I love the fact of being able to wake up from the camp site and drink my morning coffee right on the beach!
There are several things to check out and see while here on the island: the Marsh walk which is where I took the picture above. The hiking trails are great but bring bug spray! And the Boneyard. Note though: with every major hurricane that hits this barrier island, the beach washes away. This is what happened to the road that used to lead down to the boneyard. You can still see the remnants of this road, the drains and wires from when they were flooded. Don’t forget the lighthouse!!
Every night after visiting my late husband in the nursing home after his strokes, I would drive by the lake on the way home. Many of those sunsets were spectacular and gave me comfort in an otherwise very stressful and hard time! These are some of those pictures. I was able to find the beauty in an otherwise rough world. Two of the smallest pictures are from an evening of kayaking a year before the others.
